GARST, DANIEL M. Age 90, died January 17, 2013 in Las Cruces, NM. He was born September 12, 1922 in Dayton, Ohio. He lived in Albuquerque 51 years before moving to Las Cruces in 2008. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1948, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He was employed at Sandia National Laboratories for 29 years, during which time he was a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, and held national offices in the Institute of Environmental Sciences and American Association for Contamination Control. After retiring, Dan volunteered at the Tourist Information Desk at the Albuquerque Sunport for 22 years, where he enjoyed meeting travelers from around the world. Dan and his wife, BJ, enjoyed traveling--their favorite destinations being the Oregon Coast, Alaska, and Harbour Island, Bahamas. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo (BJ); daughters Emily Garst-Bair (Dave), Betsy Holt (Matt), all of Las Cruces; granddaughters Megan Cain (Jason), Lindsay Locke (Drew), Kate Stokes (Brandon), Carrie Acosta (Mario), and Amy French (Jesse); and 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, George (Sue) Minshall; sister-in-law, Inez Minshall; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 4;00pm at St. Paul's Methodist Church Chapel in Las Cruces. A reception will be held immediately following at the Bair home, 564 Cedardale Loop.
