 BERLIN, IRVING N. M.D. Irving was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. He died peacefully at home on Monday, January 14, 2013. He was born the older of two brothers on May 31, 1917 to Solomon and Lena Berlin. Irving grew up and went to school in Chicago, Illinois. During World War II, Irving was in the Army Medical Corp. While serving in Germany he worked with the Nazi prisoners during the Nurenberg trials. Irving married his wife, Deane, in 1975. They lived in San Francisco where Irving was a child psychiatrist for the Children's Service at the Langley Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute which is associated with the University of California at San Francisco. Irving and his wife moved to Albuquerque in the late 1970's when he became the first Medical Director of the Children's Psychiatric Hospital associated with the University of New Mexico. He was also a professor of child and adolescent psychiatry in the medical school. As a clinical teacher and supervisor, Irving was thought by his students, residents and fellows to be excellent in both capacities. He also traveled a great deal to provide similar services to many programs across the country. At one time he was the president of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. At his request, no services will be held. Irving is survived by his wife, Deane; his sons, Gregory Berlin in Hawaii, Walter Berlin in California; and his daughter Suzanne Berlin in Washington.
