Obituary for BARGMAN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday January 05, 2013

BARGMAN, EDWARD FRED From a peaceful sleep, Edward Bargman, age 96, was called to our Lord's side. Ed passed on the morning of December 27, 2012. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted friend. Ed was born in Kewaunee, Wisconsin on December 18, 1916. As a member of our country's "greatest generation" Ed conducted himself with distinction in the European Theater, receiving four bronze stars among numerous other decorations. As a young man, before and after the War, Ed played serious hardball in the state of Wisconsin, earning all-star positions at short stop and third base. Throughout his life he remained an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He began listening to Cubs games on the radio along with his mother in Wisconsin and seldom missed a chance to catch a game on television once he moved to New Mexico. In his later years he participated in horseshoe tournaments throughout the state and when he could no longer compete to his standards he volunteered over numerous summers to maintain the horseshoe pits at Los Altos Park. He used his skills as a sheet metal worker (Union Local 49) to provide his family of seven children with a bountiful upbringing. It was not unheard of for Ed to volunteer for extra hours or even work second jobs to secure the well being of his family. In retirement Ed didn't retire. He spent 12 years as a volunteer with Laborers For Christ, building churches throughout our state. All these endeavors sort of describe Ed Bargman but perhaps there is one aspect of his life that defines him. Ed was a man of faith; faith in his fellow man, surely, but most importantly faith in the Lord. His love of God and his unwavering trust in His guidance were the foundation of Ed's uncanny ability to choose the right path, to fight the right battles, and to give the strongest and wisest advice. His sense of humor, his blue-eyed squint, and his gold-toothed grin could combine to bring an entire roomful of people to tears of laughter. Those kinds of social skills as well as his sense of well-being and control over his own destiny seemed, once again, to derive from his boundless faith in the Lord. It is not often that one is fortunate enough to encounter a person of such inspirational faith. The family and friends of Ed Bargman are among those fortunate ones. He will be dearly missed. Ed was the son of Edward and Bertha (Tess) Bargmann, both deceased. Ed's siblings were Clarence Bargmann, Herb Bargmann, Hildegard Zimmerman, and Erna Teske each of whom preceded him in death. His wife Evelyn passed in 2010. His grandson Caleb Bargman also preceded him. Ed is survived by all seven of his children. They include: Edward James Bargman, daughter Byrd A. C. Bargman, son Steve Bargman and his wife Cindy, daughter Ruth Bargman-Romero and her husband Lou, son Tom Bargman, son John Bargman and his wife Christine, son Bill Bargman and his wife Rhonda. Ed's family also includes seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Gold St. SE in Albuquerque. There will be a brief viewing that day at 10:15 AM. After the service a meal will be served at the parish hall. Ed will be interred that day at 3:00 PM at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Ed's name to: Laborers For Christ c/o Lutheran Church Extension Fund, 10733 Sunset Office Drive Suite 300, St. Louis, MO 3127-1020.
