GARIHEE, LAURA V. "LAURIE" age 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, Laurie passed away on December 23, 2012. She was born on February 21, 1932 in Harvard, IL, raised in Merrill, WI, attended Our Lady of the Holy Cross High School, received her BS from Illinois State at Normal, IL and did graduate work at the Univ of Mich and UNM. She pursued her career as a Speech/Language Pathologist for 35 years, first in Illinois, then at the Rehabilitation Center, Inc. here in Albuquerque. From 1970 to 1990, she was employed by Albuquerque Public Schools. A member of American Speech and Hearing Association and New Mexico Speech and Hearing Association, she served as Treasurer of the latter for 14 years. An active member of the Aquinas Newman Center Catholic Community, Laurie served as a Lector and member of the Liturgy Committee for many years. She was also a volunteer reader for Newsline, the Talking Newspaper for the blind. Laurie enjoyed stamp collecting, reading, bowling and the company of a series of wonderful dogs. Laurie is survived by nephews Jeff Robl and Jim Robl, niece Sandi Pitts and long time friend, Dr. Francine Olmstead. Rosary will be held Monday, December 31, 2012 at 9:30am followed by the Mass of Resurrection at the Aquinas Newman Center. Internment to be held at a later time at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Merrill, Wisconsin. Contributions can be made to the Flower Fund at Aquinas Newman Center, National Federation of the Blind of NM, Animal Humane Assoc. of NM or your favorite charity in Laurie's honor.
