Obituary for LAPLANT

LAPLANT, ELLEN Ellen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 in Rio Rancho, NM. She is survived by her brother, William E. LaPlante of Westminster, MD; cousin, John R. Wall of Olney, MD; goddaughter, Patti Cole of Santa Fe, NM; and her goddaughter, Linda Anderson of Los Alamos, NM. Ellen was born in Baltimore, MD on March 14, 1923 and moved to Los Alamos, NM in January of 1950. She was employed for 35 years with Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, later Los Alamos National Laboratory, as an administrative secretary, with 22 of those years being in J-Division where she was involved in many of the Nevada Test Site experiments. Ellen was an active golfer in the Los Alamos Golf Association (LAGA) and the Los Alamos Women's Golf Association (LAWGA), and she enjoyed bowling in the 1950s and the 1960s. She was also involved in the Los Alamos Light Opera and Little Theatre (LALO) helping with props and sets. Ellen moved to Rio Rancho, NM in April of 1992, where she volunteered with Presbyterian Medical Center and Presbyterian Rio Rancho Urgent Care. Services will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 1:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Westside. There will be a private interment at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, NM. If a tangible form of tribute is desired, in lieu of flowers and because of Ellen's love of animals, please make a donation to the Best Friends Animal Society; Wildlife Center, Espanola, NM; ASPCA; or Rio Rancho Animal Control. A very heartfelt thank you goes out to the wonderful people at Fairwinds - Rio Rancho, Hospice de la Luz, and Casa de Shalom for their loving care and support of Ellen.
