Obituary for ALENDER

ALENDER, MARILOU Age 83, of Albuquerque, New Mexico went to her heavenly home October 28, 2012. She was born October 23, 1929 in Vandalia, Illinois, the daughter of Ruby Gray Crothers and Elmer Crothers. She married Thomas M. Alender June 29, 1947 in Vandalia Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1979. Also, preceding her in death was a son, T. Scott and a sister, Dorothy Lentz. Marilou is survived by a daughter, Sheila of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, John of Amarillo, TX; a sister, Donna Elam of Keysport, Ill.; a brother-in-law and wife Clarence and Mary Alender of Gillespie, Ill.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also, surviving are three nieces; five nephews; and 18 great-nieces and nephews. Marilou and Tom published the weekly newspaper in Tolono, Illinois for 15 years. Following his death, she was the Registrar at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Urbana campus. She retired in 1992. Marilou had lived with her daughter in Albuquerque for the past 13 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque. Marilou enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her Shih Tzu, Rudy. She also enjoyed traveling, reading and was a member of The Golden Girls craft/fellowship church group. Services will be held at a later date in Tolono, Illinois. Freese Funeral Home, Tolono is assisting with arrangements.
