MORTON, DONALD L. Age 77, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away September 5, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Yvonne Bailey Morton. Don is survived by his four children; Letha Ayn Morton, Leah Johnson, Devonna Phillips, Derrick Morton, nine grandchildren; Kara Jenkins, Harleigh Howell, Daniel and Laurel Johnson, Alexa, Brittany, and Jared Phillips, and Sam and Libby Morton, and his brother, Gwyn Morton. Don was born to Aud and Cora Morton on July 13, 1935, in Sherman, TX. He graduated "Most Friendly" from Sherman High School in 1953, went to college for two years then joined the Navy. After leaving the Navy, Don received his teaching degree in choral music and English. His 39 year teaching career ended with his retirement from the Clovis New Mexico Public Schools in 2000, but his love of music continued and has been passed down to his children and grandchildren. Don loved the sing-alongs at Fairwinds Retirement Community and was a member of the Westside Community Chorale. He was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Corrales, NM, and had an extended family with the church members. Don had a zest for life and an open and friendly attitude toward everyone. His presence is missed by all who knew him, but his spirit and love will always remain. A private family celebration of Don's life will be held in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
