Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday August 22, 2012

DELLA Age 85, born Adelaida Esquibel on August 1, 1927, to Ramon and Juanita Esquibel in Abo, New Mexico, passed away on August 19, 2012, with her loving family at her side. She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years Antonio Jose Mirabal; her nine children (all of Albuquerque); and brother Levi Esquibel and wife Suzi. Della's and Antonio's sons and wives are Ruben Estevan (Vicki), Alberto Luis, Santiago (Loretta), Mike (Cathy), Lawrence, and Edwin; their daughters and husbands are Teresa Rice (Ron), Susan Gonzales (Gil), and Clair Sarracino (Mike). Della was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Juanita; her brothers Jose Salas, Nicolas Esquibel, and Silvestre Esquibel; her sisters Ascension Carrillo, Bennie Esquibel, and Patrocinia Padilla. Della was the proud grandmother of nineteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved doting on her family. Her husband and family were the most important people in her life. She was always available to her family to celebrate their successes and share in their tribulations. Even in times of personal hardship, her family came first. She always made time to patiently and caringly listen to everyone's needs, and did whatever she could to help in times of need. While Della didn't garner great acclaim for her accomplishments in life, in the eyes and hearts of her family she achieved an even loftier goal by being a caring and loving wife and mother. She fostered and nurtured the values and qualities in her children that helped them all achieve success in life. She was an example of perseverance in all that was good. The greatest gift she bestowed on her family was her love, which her family will cherish forever. Della's favorite pastimes were preparing some of the best Southwestern Mexican food on the planet for her family, an evening at the local casino, and garage sales. In early retirement she and Antonio would spend winters in Las Vegas, Nevada, in their RV, and summers in her native New Mexico. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her, but most of all by her life-long partner and husband, Antonio. She was the light of his life and the one who made all things possible. Della was a devout member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho where a Rosary will be said in her honor on Thursday, August 23rd at 7:00 p.m. An opportunity for public viewing will follow the rosary. A Mass will be held to celebrate her life on Friday, August 24th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment will follow the Mass at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road S.E. in Rio Rancho.
