JO EDITH age 81, peacefully passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on August 8, 2012. Born July 23, 1931, in Wightman, Texas, to the late Irvin R. and Rosie Jones, Jo grew up with humble beginnings in the piney woods of southeast Texas. Throughout her life, Jo exemplified her convictions that she often imparted to others: get a good education, work hard, and believe in yourself. By completing two grades of high school in one year, Jo illustrated that "anything is possible if you put your mind to it". Believing she could do any job a man could do, Jo became a career woman long before women were accepted in the workplace. As early as the 1950's she held positions with companies such as Hoffer's Men's Store, Texas State Optical, and GMAC. After her retirement from GMAC in Albuquerque, Jo worked alongside her husband, an accomplished building contractor. Jo loved the Lord her God with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength. She followed Christ's example as a passionate advocate of those in need. In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by three brothers, Ruil, Calvin, and Jim Jones, and one sister, Oma Maxine Jones. Jo is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert M. Scott, Sr.; her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Harriet Scott of Dallas, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Colette and Blair Overturf of Roswell, New Mexico; her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kelly Scott of Albuquerque; her step-daughter, Michele Stone of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren, Ryan Evan, Steven, Eric, David, Mark, Ryan Taylor, Kenneth, Mandie, Michael; and eight great-grandchildren; Marisa, Andrew, Brandon, Brady, Caleb, Brielle, Joshua, and Gianna. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Terra Ann and Robert Davis of Silsbee, Texas; and her brother and sister-in-law, Irvin and Pat Jones of Conroe, Texas. A memorial service for Jo is scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Calvary Chapel East, 12820 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, with the Reverend Roberto Cuellar officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jo's name to Joy Junction by calling (505) 877-6967.
