Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday July 24, 2012

MALCOLM (MAC) MAURICE, DR. Passed away on July 19, 2012 at the age of 81 at the Lovelace Westside Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, surrounded by his entire family. Mac was born on January 16, 1931, in Laredo, Texas, to William Clay and Laura McKay Morrow. His family lived for a number of years in South Haven, Kansas, and later in Parker, Kansas where he graduated high school in 1948. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1956. Mac married Nona Brice on December 26, 1955 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri. At the time of his death, Mac and Nona had been married for over 57 years. Mac and Nona moved to Springer, New Mexico in 1959 after spending two years in Crownpoint, New Mexico where Mac practiced medicine at the Navajo Hospital under the direction of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Mac became a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians in 1976. He was a member of the New Mexico Academy of Family Physicians for 36 years, and president of that organization in 1978. He served on the Springer School Board for twelve years, and was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church. Mac was a devoted husband, loving and firm father, a dedicated family doctor, avid fly fisherman, and lifelong Kansas Jayhawk basketball fan. Mac could always be seen driving his 1959 Willy's Jeep or his 1960 Mercedes Benz around Springer, and every Thursday afternoon, like clock work, that jeep could be seen parked by the stream in Cimarron Canyon. Mac enjoyed many moments in that same jeep, like taking his sons on their annual deer hunting trip and teaching all his children to drive. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings Duane, Ken and Nita. He is survived by his loving wife Nona; his four children and their spouses, Janet Kear(Michael), Mike Morrow (Christie), Patrick Morrow (Shelley) and Julie Morrow. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Darrin, Patrick, and Brian Kear, Ryan Ramirez, Kyle and Brad Morrow, and Clay and Kristen Morrow; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Mac will be forever missed by his entire family. Memorial services will be conducted at the Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108, on July 28, 2012 from 2:00-3:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the "Jay Brian Reece Memorial Scholarship Fund", held at the Wells Fargo Bank in Springer, NM 87747.
