Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday July 15, 2012

KATHRYN LOUISE January 16, 1953-July 2, 2012 Passed away early July 2nd with her beloved husband Eric and sister Rebecca at her side. Kathy fought breast cancer for several months with a positive focus, remarkable humor, and uncommon courage. Kathy's childhood was a unique experience of living in several places. She was born January 16, 1953 in Lafayette, Indiana. She lived in Madison, Wisconsin; Wilmette, Illinois; South Miami, Florida; Missoula, Montana; Sacramento, California; and Timonium, Maryland. She moved to Albuquerque to attend UNM in 1972. Kathy worked in several industries including restaurants, roofing, and accounting. She met and married Eric Brooks on February 22, 1996. They were devoted life partners for over 16 years. Kathy loved reading, finding one of a kind clothes that were her style, poking fun at the weirdness of life, laughing until she snorted, her friends, her Mom Jinny, her brothers and sister, their wives and husband, her nieces and nephews, and her wonderful husband Eric. Kathy is survived by her husband Eric Brooks; mother Virginia Wolfe Johns; brother Tom Johns, his wife Jill; nieces Bailey and Ridgely; nephew Jackson; brother Mike Johns, his wife Mary; niece Leslie; nephew Matthew; sister Rebecca Johns, her husband Carl Ambrose; and nephew Cohen Ambrose. She will be terribly missed by all who she touched with her wit, humor, irreverence, and willingness to be transparent and real.
