SYLVIA ANN Age 62, passed away 2 July 2012, at home in Tularosa, NM surrounded by family and friends. Sylvia was born December 7, 1949 to Ralph and Dora Vigil in Oakland, CA. After receiving her degree in nursing from UNM, she returned to her hometown of Tularosa and worked as an OB nurse for 22 years at GCRMC. During retirement, she pursued her passion of finding, collecting, and selling antiques; camping and fishing; playing with and raising her grandchildren; gardening; and enjoying life. She is survived by her husband of 42 yrs Don; her children Tracy Powell Thompson, Derek and wife Krystine Powell, and Ryan and wife Grace Powell; her father Ralph Vigil; brothers Alfonso Aguilar and Danny Vigil; sister Rosalie Cordova; four grandchildren Devon Thompson, Portia Thomson, Sean Powell, and Ethan Powell; numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and all those who loved her. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her as family or friend. In lieu of flowers, Sylvia asked that donations be made to a local animal shelter, the American Cancer Society, or Alamogordo Home Health Care and Hospice Inc. Private services will be held. The Powell family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
