STATA PAULINE MCKINNEY Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away March 28, 2012 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 85. Stata was born March 12, 1927 in Agua Fria (Colfax County), NM and lived in New Mexico most of her lifetime. She graduated from Espanola High School, and continued her education graduating from UNM in 1963. She retired from Southwest Community Health Services (Presbyterian Hospital[s]) following 20 years of executive administrative service. She also lived in Riyahd, Saudi Arabia working at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre from 1975-1976. She was the widow of the late Dale Everett Swartz of Albuquerque who died in 1966. She remained unmarried during the remainder of her life. She was also preceded in death by: grandparents Anthony W and Susan A McKinney (paternal) and Alfred and Elnora Burchett (maternal); parents Edward S and Mary Dott McKinney; brothers James M, Anthony Wayne II, Steven E, David Henry II, and Bruce R McKinney; sister Shirley H Adams Smith; and granddaughter Bonnie Sue Hopper Rhodes. She is survived by: brother Larry A McKinney of Albuquerque; children Linda S Stake (Paul) and J Marlene Long (Russell) of Albuquerque, and Cathryn M Carrillo (Christopher) of Taos, NM; grandchildren Regina T Bostick (Tony) of Hobbs, NM, Anthony J Hopper of Albuquerque, and Clinton T Cappelle of Columbus, OH; step-grandchildren Ruth Anne Rohrbach (Gary) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Christopher M Carrillo (Leslie) of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren Stephanie R Bragg (Chris), Brandi R Rhodes, Jordan J Norwood-Hopper, Pryia C Hopper, and Beau M Hopper of Albuquerque, and Kyle B Cappelle of Columbus, OH; step-great-grandchildren Nathan P Rohrbach of Colorado Springs, CO, and Destiny Carrillo of Albuquerque; great-great-grandchildren Alysa M Rhodes, Mariah L Rhodes, Benjamin W Bragg, and Mercy V Bragg of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law Dorris McKinney of Albuquerque, and Pauline McKinney of Farmington, NM; brothers-in-law Bob Swartz (Roxie) of Ft Worth, TX, Dean Swartz (Floy) of Jal, NM, and Paul Swartz (Delores) of Carlsbad, NM; cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and other beloved relatives and friends. Stata lived her life with unshakable love and willingness to help her family, having taken into her home each of her grandchildren when they needed her help growing up. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses she searched the Holy Scriptures for life instruction and knowledge provided by Jehovah, and enjoyed sharing and encouraging all who would listen. She loved music, especially the music of northern New Mexico which she grew up hearing, and she loved to dance to that music. She wrote two novels: the first, staged in Saudi Arabia, was based on her experience and understanding of the Saudi people; the second, staged in Espanola, Los Alamos, and Santa Fe during WWII, was also based on her personal experiences and relationships during that historical period. Always sincere, cordial, and respectful of all people she lived her faith all of her days. Following the death of Stata's mother, Stata wrote the following beautiful words about her own mother; those words have proven prophetic in nature of her own life: ". . . your sympathy and kindness somehow eases the loss of so dear a person as our mother. [We] truly believe there could be no one so sincere or good as she was. It might be that only now [we] can appreciate the meaning of 'mother', and certainly her life was devoted to us all." Cremation has taken place; arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with her paternal grandparents at Elizabethtown Cemetery, Elizabethtown (Eagle Nest), NM.
