DAVID LLOYD Age 85, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012. He was born on May 30, 1927 in McAlester, OK to John and Clara (Abbott) Hopkins. He was married 61 years to Miriam Hopkins who died in 2008. He retired from IBM after 35 years of service. Upon "retirement" he began a career in land development and spent the last 30 years developing home sites and providing financing allowing dozens of families the opportunity to become land owners. He loved his little community on South Highway 14. Mr. Hopkins was a "Jack of All Trades" who was self taught in the fields of car repair, electronics and construction. He worshipped his family. His happiest times were spent enjoying a backyard party with daughters, Mary Lou Hopkins, Janet Freitag, Lucinda McConnell-Hodge, and son-in-law, Rod Hodge; his grandchildren, Lane McConnell, William McConnell, Adam Runyan and his wife, Kristen Runyan; and his great-granddaughter, Nyellie Runyan. The last hours of his long, rich life, were spent with his dedicated caregiver, Merilyn Martinez. He got a mani-pedi, went for a drive, got his favorite treat - a chocolate milkshake, and talked about his grandkids. He was happy, smiling, joking, and asking for dinner. He epitomized the expression, "Strength in gentleness." A Private Memorial will be held by the family at a future date.
