RACHEL A. 51, a former resident of Las Vegas died April 30, 2012 in Rio Rancho, NM. She was born May 15, 1960 to John and Lena Villegas in Belen, NM and graduated from West Las Vegas High School in 1978. Rachel attended the State Police Academy, which began her 20 year career in law enforcement. She also received an Associate's in Electronics and a Bachelors degree at New Mexico Highlands University in 1993. Rachel retired from the City of Santa Fe Police Department in December 2011. She was an active member of the Church of the Incarnation in Rio Rancho. Her interests included family, gardening and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members. Rachel is preceded in death by her father John Villegas and survived by her husband of 25 years, David Meserve, daughter Sara , her mother Lena Villegas, sisters Christina Montano and Ruth Villegas of Rio Rancho and Cathy Villegas of Las Vegas. Eight nieces and nephews, John Greenfield, Jonah Greenfield, Mariah Montano, Seth Montano, Desirae Green, Haley Holt, Leah Johnson and Keri-Beth Thompson. She was also godmother to Amelia and Lily Romero and Mariah Montano. Services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 2:15 on May 2nd. The family would prefer memorials be made to the Building Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia Ave. Las Vegas, NM. Arrangement handled by Direct Cremations and Funeral Services.
