Obituary for REDDY

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 19, 2012

ANN JOERNS CAFFREY Ann passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, February 13, 2012. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Robert Reddy; by her eight surviving children and their spouses, John and Bettina Caffrey, Ann Marie Caffrey, Kevin and Joanne Caffrey, Cecilia and Rick Colucci, Brian and Kathy Caffrey, all of Albuquerque, Michael and Liana Caffrey of Riverton, WY, Timothy and Joy Caffrey of Fayetteville, AR and Richard Caffrey of Nampa, ID. Ann was preceded in death by her three sons, Daniel, Christopher, and Philip. She is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Deborah Caffrey of Albuquerque and Mechelle Caffrey of Corpus Christi; and by four Reddy step-children and their families; nieces and nephews from the Joerns family originally of Wichita Falls, Texas; and the Seery family originally of Belen, NM. Ann's love of her surviving children, 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren was her greatest legacy and pride. Ann was born in Santa Fe, NM in 1922. Her mother relocated to the East Coast and Ann spent most of her formative years in Washington, D.C. She graduated from the College of St. Theresa in Winona, MN where she majored in Spanish Language and Literature. After college she returned to the Washington, DC area where she worked and became a post-war bride, marrying John A. Caffrey. In 1952, they moved to Albuquerque with their four young children. Ann loved being back in the wide open west, and she settled her family into a modest home on the West Mesa. Seven more children became members of the Caffrey clan. In 1970, tragedy struck the family when John became ill and subsequently died after a long illness. Ann was left to raise her children on her own. She went back to school and obtained a degree in Library Science, and worked as the Librarian at Albuquerque High School until she retired. After her last child was out of the house, Ann retired and enjoyed traveling and painting. She became an accomplished watercolorist and displayed her work at several galleries in the Albuquerque area. She also found love again and a new life partner in her second husband, Robert Reddy. They enjoyed 19 happy and wonderful years together. A Rosary and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at French-Lomas Chapel. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1800 Martha St. NE. Interment will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
