Obituary for MILLER

JAMES GOTTFRIED Age 80, passed away after a short illness February 2, 2012 at La Vida Llena in Albuquerque. Jim was born in Iowa and enlisted in the United States Air Force serving from 1950 until 1970 when he retired from Kirkland Air Force Base as a CMSGT. Jim then invested and helped operate Southwest Adobes Inc. for a short time, after which he retuned in 1974 to his job as Supervisor at 1606 Transportation Sq. Vehicle Maintenance Branch, 542d TRNS/LGTM at Kirkland AFB as a civil servant. In 1984 he was awarded Supervisor of the Year'. He retired permanently in1992 when he and his wife Alice became active charter members of the Good Sam Siesta Travel Club of Albuquerque. Jim was well known for his famous pancakes and as an avid card and game player, a hobby he continued at La Vida Llena. Jim and Alice were awarded on Sept 29, 1996 the New Mexico Golden Halo Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Good Sam Club. He is survived by his sons Charles J. Miller and daughter-in-law, Kathryn A. of Colonial Beach VA, Donald G. Miller and daughter-in-law, Karen Winston of Spokane WA. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Jon K. Miller, and his wife, Janice of Culpeper, VA, James D. Miller, Lara Jay Miller and great-grandchildren, Rebbeca Miller; and Devin and Karli Miller of Culpeper VA. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice M Miller, his parents Gottfried and Johanna Miller, and his three brothers John, Werner, and Dean Miller; and grandson, Ryan Miller. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 9:00 am Friday Feb 10, 2012 with full Military honors, followed by a memorial service for family and all of his friends at La Vida Llena on La Grima De Oro NE in Carter Hall at 2:00 pm.
