JOHN PETER Age 82, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012. He was born June 1, 1929 in West New York, NJ. He lived in North Bergen, Union City and Toms River, New Jersey area until 1978 when he moved to Rio Rancho. He was a resident of Rio Rancho until moving to Littleton, CO in August 2010. He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart, Dee, of 53 years, who passed away March 3, 2006; his daughter, Linda Marie Di Rito, who passed away October 3, 2009. He is survived by his son, Thomas J. Di Rito and wife Diana of Highlands Ranch, CO; three grandchildren, Christopher Di Rito and wife Jacque, Lisa Kjeseth and husband Casey, Laura Di Rito, all of Highlands Ranch, CO; two great-grandchildren, Dominik Di Rito and Gavin Di Rito, both of Highlands Ranch, CO. He was a member of the Memorial High School band, where he met his future wife, Matilda "Dee" Hippeli. He served in the 5th Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Before retiring, he was a draftsman for several civil engineering firms both in New Jersey and in New Mexico. John owned a restaurant in Rio Rancho (The Spot) and later worked for Daniels Family Funeral Services in Rio Rancho. He was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, The American Legion Post 118 in Rio Rancho, the Rio Rancho Italian American Club and was past Exalted Ruler of the Rio Rancho Elks Lodge 2500. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm, Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Road Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, February 3, 2012 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Entombment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Rio Rancho, NM.
