EDMUND, "GENE" EUGENE Age 80, of Albuquerque, passed away at his home in the early morning hours of January 22, 2012. He was born in Starkville, CO on January 11, 1932. Gene graduated from Primero High School in 1949 and soon after joined the Navy. A year later he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, then graduated in the class of 1954 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He went on to attend the University of Oklahoma in Stillwater, OK where he received his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. He continued in the Air Force as a pilot, retiring after 21 years of service. Gene enjoyed playing racquet ball, traveling and welding in his spare time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melquiades and Rose Martinez; and sister, Eva. Gene is survived by several sisters; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and close friends. Gene will be greatly missed by all. Visitations will be Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Service of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 Fourth St., NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.
