CLIFTON ELBERT (WOODY) Passed away on Friday, January 20, 2012 at the age of 92. Woody is survived by his wife of 23 years, Dixie Tate Woodcock. He was preceded in death by Mary Eastman Woodcock, his wife of 45 years and the mother of his three children who survive him, Joe Woodcock and his wife Wanda, Virginia (Ginger) Aguilar and her husband James, and Susan Zurasky. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and two sisters, Lois Slezak, of Herrin, IL, and Jean Swenson, of Brown Deer, WI. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Vernal Woodcock and his sister Lucille Jorgensen. Woody was born in Albia, Iowa on February 9, 1919 and grew up in Newton, Iowa. In 1942, Woody graduated from the University of Iowa with a BSC degree in accounting. Upon graduation he began his career in accounting in the New York office of the international firm Haskins & Sells. In November of 1942 he was transferred from New York to the firm's Denver office. In October, 1943 he moved to Artesia, New Mexico as chief accountant with Malco Refineries, Inc. Following the end of World War II, he returned to public accounting in 1946 and joined the firm of Linder, Burk & Stephenson in Albuquerque, becoming a partner in 1949. In 1956, Linder Burk & Stephenson merged with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co (now KPMG) and he became a partner in PMM & Co. In 1961, Woody was promoted to managing partner of the Albuquerque office. On January 1, 1969, he was transferred to Detroit as a managing partner of that PMM & Co. office. Upon retirement in 1977, he and his wife Mary returned to Albuquerque. In 1978, Woody joined Bill C. Carroll Co. (now Carroll Ventures, Inc.) as financial vice president, a position he held until his second retirement in 1994. His professional career included many areas of service to his profession, including 14 years service as a member of council of the American Institute of CPA's, a member of its committee on relations with the Federal Power Commission, a member of its committee on relations with the Atomic Energy Committee, and as a delegate to the International Accounting Conference in 1967. He served as president of the New Mexico Society of CPA's (1953-1955), Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Michigan Society of CPA's and as a member of the Michigan Association of the Professions. Woody had a long record of community service which includes, University of New Mexico Foundation, Treasurer, Director and Executive Committee; Lovelace Medical Foundation, Director and Executive Committee; National Camp Fire Girls, Inc, New York, N.Y., Director and Chairman of the Board; Camp Fire Girls, Inc. Albuquerque Council, Treasurer, Director and President; Governor Campbell's Tax Advisory Committee (1963-1969); Mayor Kinney's Blue Ribbon Productivity Committee for Albuquerque, Chairman; New Mexico Rehabilitation Center, Director and President; Albuquerque Symphony Orchestra, Director and Vice-President; Better Business of Albuquerque, Director; United Way of Albuquerque, Professional Division and Rotary Club of Albuquerque. Woody is a long time member of the Monte Vista Christian Church and a member and past president of the Albuquerque Country Club. He loved Albuquerque and the southwest. He and his wife, Dixie enjoyed camping and jeeping mixed with lots of world travel. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the charity of your choice.
