WILLIAM "BILL" 90, a resident of McIntosh, NM, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012 after a short illness. He is survived by wife, Joan Saline; sons, William Saline Jr. (Glenda) and Kenneth Saline (Janet) of Mesa, Arizona; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and brother, Herman (Margaret) of Hobbs, NM. William was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lee of McIntosh; father, Robert Charles; mother, Alice Hooper Saline; sister, Alice Saline Stephens; and brother, Kenneth of Colorado. William graduated from Encino High School, where he was a talented baseball player and received an invitation from the Boston Red Sox to play baseball. Instead WWII called him to service and he joined the US Army, serving in England by repairing radios on bomber squadrons. While in England, he met Joan, who was boarding with his aunts at the time. They married across the ocean and she arrived on a plane in Albuquerque, where she joined him in Pedernal, NM, which no longer exists. They were married 62 years. From Pedernal, he farmed his way to McIntosh and has been a lifelong farmer in the Estancia Valley, when most farmers worked together to get their crops out. In doing so, he knew most of the farming families across the valley and swapped parts, harvesting, stories, and produce from his gardens and orchards with many over the years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at French-University Chapel in Albuquerque, NM. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park 924 Menaul Blvd NE.
