Obituary for GUILLEN

PHILLIP 90, a resident of Espanola, joined his son, Bobby, and infant grandson, Nicholas in Heaven on Thursday, January 19, 2012 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Anita Guillen; son, Bobby Guillen in 1961; brothers, Dickie and Tranquillino; sister, Teresina Galvez. Phillip was born in June 2, 1921 to Enrique and Anita Guillen of Alcalde. Phillip along with his wife, Matilde, owned and operated Matilda's Cafe for 55 years. Phillip will be remembered by his friends and family as a wonderful man who was full of life, love and big ideas. He loved turning misc. items into incredible and creative contraptions. Phillip was a talented and accomplished poker player. He loved spending time with his friends in the poker room, and his contagious laugh will be greatly missed. He was a very generous man and would help anyone in need. In his eyes no one was a stranger. Phillip's greatest accomplishment was his family. He and his wife Matilda have four children, whom he loved very much. He had a special bond with each and everyone. Words cannot express how passionate he was about his grandchildren; since his first one was born, they gave him the best of happiness and joy every day, they all adored him. Mr. Guillen is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, wife Matilda Guillen of Espanola; children: Rose Ellen Guillen of Santa Fe, Pearl Delgado and husband Chris of Espanola and Dorothy DeVargas and husband Toby of Albuquerque; grandchildren: Mesha Delgado and Bobby Delgado, Anita Delgado-Lucero and husband Chris, Catherine Apodaca and husband Robert all of Espanola, Toby DeVargas and wife Donna of Albuquerque, Tony DeVargas and wife Cristal of Albuquerque; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Rebecca Salazar of Alcalde, Elmer Guillen and wife Frances of Espanola and Clarabelle Villareal and husband Merce of Albuquerque; numerous other loving nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends that loved him dearly. Public visitation will begin on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Alcalde. Burial to follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Bobby Delgado, Toby DeVargas, Jr., Tony DeVargas, Manuel Vigil, David Delgado, Christopher Arrietta, Robert Apodaca, Jake Serna and Tony Guillen. Honorary pallbearers named are Delayna, Hailey and Aiden, Isaiah, Ashley and Marc Jacob, Dommino, Marquez, Santiago, Marysa and Dominic, Angelize and Joselynn and Vincent, Jonathan and Anton. The family of Phillip Guillen has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
