Obituary for BURROW

RAY Age 85, resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2012. He was born to Adda Ray Husky and John David Burrow in Texhoma, OK on August 16, 1926. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 59 years, Eleanor Ruth Smigelow Burrow. He graduated from Keyes High School, a town located in the panhandle of Oklahoma. After graduation, he joined the Navy. He served in the Navy during World War II, from June of 1944 to June of 1946, as a non-commissioned officer. He was a gunner's mate, second class. He spent one year aboard a gunboat in the South Pacific. After he served in the Navy, he went to work in the oil fields in Oklahoma. A year later, he went to college at the University of Colorado and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. He married Eleanor Smigelow in 1951 and moved to Raton, NM and worked as a Pharmacist. In 1954, he bought the furniture store from his father-in-law. In 1970, he converted the business to a carpet specialty store which he ran until 1983. In his semi-retirement, he kept busy as a certified carpet inspector. In 1983, he sold the business and moved to Albuquerque, NM. He was an active member of Ballut Abyad Shriners and the Royal Order of Jesters. He is survived by his children, Valerie Padilla and husband Joseph and Nancy Bashore and husband George; grandchildren, Amy Padilla, Christy Ortiz and husband Aaron, and Jonathan Bashore; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Gabriel and Ellie Ortiz. Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. Ray will be remembered as an admired and respected business man and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
