Obituary for SEGRIST

W. DEAN Age, 78, born in Munden, Kansas, died Thursday, December 8, 2011. He is survived by Alice, his wife of 53 years; son, Scott and wife, Sandy, Glenwood, MD; daughter, Lisa Moore, Albuquerque; sister, Susan Powell and husband, Jeff, Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Amanda Segrist, Steven Segrist, Allison Moore, Katelyn Moore, Nicholas Moore; and many nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his father and mother, Walter James and Ruth Segrist. Dean and Alice first met in 1955 when he was stationed at KAFB in the Air Force. A few months after this meeting Dean was sent to Goosebay, Labrador where he spent a year. This was at the time of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. From there he was sent to McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas remaining there until the end of his tour. Dean and Alice were married in 1958 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dean then started school at the University of Wichita on the G.I Bill, and later transferred to the University of New Mexico where he received his degree in Business Administration. After graduation, Dean became an accountant with the USF&G Insurance Company in Albuquerque. A year later, their son, Scott, was born. In 1967 Dean was given the opportunity to be the District Supervisor of the Western Data Processing Center for USF&G in Salt Lake City, UT. The family remained there for the next nine years making many life-long friends. Daughter, Lisa, was born during this time. In 1976, Dean was transferred to the USF&G home office in Baltimore, Maryland. Throughout the next 6 years, the wonderful friendships made Maryland a special place for him. Dean then came back to work in the Albuquerque office before retiring in 1988. Dean then opened A&D Lawn Service which he operated for over 10 years. During his retirement years, Dean and Alice had the time to visit friends and family in such places as Alaska, Bermuda and many places in the continental United States. Dean was a very active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained elder. His children and grandchildren were always at the top of his priority list. A Memorial service to celebrate Dean's life will be held Thursday, December 29, 3:00 p.m., at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria NE in Albuquerque, NM 87112.
