MARTHA NELL July 4, 1921-- Nov. 21, 2011 Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico July 4, 1921. She died peacefully at Manzano Del Sol on Nov. 21, 2011. Martha Nell was a lovely, dedicated, Christian woman who grew up attending Monte Vista Christian Church. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1939. Martha Nell attended UNM in Albuquerque from 1939-1941. Then she went to Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri and received a B.A. degree in 1943. Martha Nell attended and received a Masters of Religious Education at Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington Kentucky in 1946. It was while in Seminary she met her late husband Herbert J. Simpson. She was a Pastor's wife in Toronto, Canada for 14 years. In 1961 Herb was appointed to First Christian Church, Paducah, Kentucky for 23 years. While in Paducah, Martha Nell helped in fund raising and building a new church on the outskirts of Paducah. She was always active in many church and social organizations both local and statewide. In 1986 Herb and Martha Nell moved back to Albuquerque. Along with being active in P. E. O., she enjoyed her hobbies of Photography, Embroidery and when Herb would say (Travel) off they would go. A Memorial Service will be held at the Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE. on December 16th at 2:00 p.m. Martha Nell is survived by cousins, Fletcher C. Bowman and wife Mary of Deming, NM, Clinton Bowman and wife Joy of Denver City, TX., Francis Hinkle of Phoenix, AZ., and Helen C. Wilcox of Deming, NM. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Holly Miller of Canada; nephews, Donald Simpson and John Miller of Canada; nieces, Patricia Naef, Gail Miller of Canada and Gwen Ritchey of Phoenix. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be given to a Memorial Fund set up at Monte Vista Church in memory of Martha Nell.
