ROBERT ELMER Age 81, of Rio Rancho, passed away November 29, 2011 at home after a long battle with cancer. Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Cecile (Pufall) and Elmer J Nys. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly Jane Turner Nys; daughter, Carol Mullenioux and husband, Michael of Olathe, KS; son, CPT Thomas Robert Nys, US Army National Guard, of Riverside, CA; grandson, Aaron Mullenioux; sister, Colleen Zich and husband, Jerry; brother, Stephen Nys and wife, Lynn, all of Green Bay; and many other family and friends. Bob served in the United States Marines before receiving his BS degree at St. Norbert College, West DePere, Wisconsin. After graduation, he was commissioned as an infantry officer into the United States Army and served in the Korean War. In 1957, he joined The Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan and held various marketing positions in several states before retiring after 34 years. Mr. Nys was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. Bob was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Fourth Degree Faithful Navigator of Pope John Paul I Assembly 1905. A Memorial Rosary will be recited by the St. Thomas Aquinas Altar & Rosary Society on December 8, 2011, 7:00 PM at French - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd NW. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on December 9, 2011, 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho, with Monsignor Douglas A. Raun, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Thomas Aquinas Building Fund, St. Thomas Aquinas School Scholarship Fund or charity of your choice.
