Obituary for LOUGHRIDGE

MURIEL VINZANT Age 95, passed away Friday evening, November 11, 2011, from complications of pneumonia. She was born November 28, 1915 in Groesbeck, Texas to Bessie and William Alford Vinzant. She married James A. Loughridge on December 26, 1940. James Loughridge was with the US Army Corps of Engineers. They lived in Washington DC, Las Animas, CO, Santa Fe, NM and El Paso, TX before settling in Albuquerque. While in Albuquerque, she served as a volunteer for the Veteran's Hospital from 1963 through 1966. She was a charter member of the Professional Engineer Wives Club from 1946 until 1971. She volunteered with the Assistance League, was a charter member of St. John's United Methodist Church, the Mayor's Office on Aging committee, the Albuquerque Council of Governments and the Voluntary Action Center board of directors. Mrs. Loughridge was very passionate about her volunteer work with the American Red Cross where she served for 37 years. She began her Red Cross service in Santa Fe in 1943. After moving to Albuquerque, she was appointed to the ARC Western field office advisory council for three years and to the board at the Mid-Rio Grande Chapter for 18 years. She was named the first annual Centennial Roll Call Volunteer for the year. She later received the Clara Barton Volunteer awarded for Meritorious Volunteer Leadership in 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie Wright Vinzant and William Alford Vinzant; her husband, James A. Loughridge; and her sister, Noretta Wright. She is survived by her son, Bruce W. Loughridge and wife, Lesle N. Loughridge of Albuquerque, NM, and her daughter, Deborah L. Dent and husband, Rodney W. Dent of Athens, TX. Her four grandchildren include Melanie Dent of Weatherford, TX, Brian Loughridge and wife, Cherokee of Albuquerque, NM, Loren Dent of Brooklyn, NY and David Loughridge of Santa Fe, NM. Her three great-grandchildren are Makayla Loughridge, Aiden Loughridge and Tanner Loughridge, also of Albuquerque, NM. Her surviving sister, Doris Hoffpauir, currently resides in Center Point, TX. Services will be private for the immediate family in Groesbeck, Texas at her request.
