PRUDENCE ALLYN Died Thursday, November 3, 2011. She was known to her family and friends as "Prudy". She was born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in Manhattan, Kansas. Prudy attended Kansas State University where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. It was there that she met her husband David, who was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. She became a devoted military officers' wife, traveled the world and raised seven children. Prudy was preceded in death by her parents Sydney Allyn and Clara Dalphin McCracken; her husband of 55 years, Lieutenant Colonel David Toups Stewart Sr., US Army Retired; sister, Nancy Byrne McCracken Hentel and precious granddaughter Courtney Frances Stewart. Prudy is survived by her daughters Cydney Clare Stewart MD, husband David Allen Hovda, PhD, of Woodland Hills, CA; Kimberly Stewart Feldman, EdD, husband Eldon A.T. Feldman of Albuquerque; her five sons: David Toups Stewart Jr., MD, wife Gillian Knight Stewart of Tallahassee, Florida; Christopher Kevin Stewart, PGA Professional, of Albuquerque; Sean Allyn Stewart, wife Roxann Liccione Stewart, JD, of Albuquerque; Timothy Joseph McCracken Stewart, wife Judith Thibaut Stewart of Santa Fe and Patrick Porter Stewart, wife Allison Holmes Stewart of Albuquerque. Prudy is also survived by her grandchildren: David Toups Stewart III, Kevin Ian Stewart and Lesley Marie Stewart; nephew Kelly Edward Nelson and many close friends she thought of as part of her family. Prudy returned to college (sometimes attending class with her children) and earned a BA degree from the University of New Mexico. After retiring, Prudy became active in the raising and showing of pure bred dogs; where she attained many championship titles. Prudy was also known for her dog rescue work, placing many dogs in loving homes, and kept many unwanted dogs herself. She was a member and officer of the Rio Grande Kennel Club, member of the Military Officers Association of America and the Albuquerque Alumnae Panhellenic Association. Prudy was a beautiful woman who looked and acted young her whole life. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, decorating, needlepoint, skiing, doll collecting, and playing bridge with her many special friends. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:00p.m. at French ~ University Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 9 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd., NE. In lieu of flowers, the Stewart family suggests contributions be made in her honor to the University of New Mexico Foundation for a scholarship in Arts and Sciences.
