Obituary for PINNEY

JOHN J. JR. (JACK) Passed away Oct. 30, 2011. The eldest of five children, he was born Dec. 18, 1926 in Ottawa, Kansas, to John and Lorene Pinney. Jack spent his early years in Ottawa, and at the age of 17 joined the Navy eager to become a Navy pilot. He was sent to Lafayette, Louisiana for officer's training and remained there until the end of World War II. He returned to Kansas University where he received his degree in Civil Engineering. For the next few years he worked for the State of Kansas Water Resources Board. He then returned to Kansas University to earn a Masters in Water Resources Engineering and Planning. Jack always had a desire to see the world and work overseas. He accepted a job at the Agency for International Development (USAID), and spent many wonderful years working in Indonesia, Nepal and Sri Lanka. He retired in 1990. Jack considered the years working with USAID as the most rewarding and enjoyable of his career. He had a great love for family, a keen curiosity about the world, and was an avid hiker and camper. Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Pinney; Paul and Tracy Ousdahl; David Pinney; Jay Pinney and Sarah Cain; granddaughter Anjali Pinney. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Open Space Alliance of Albuquerque, or The Alzheimer's Association. A memorial reception will be held at a later date.
