Obituary for PUGH

ORVILLE Age 79 passed away Monday, October 17, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janet Beers Pugh, daughter, Julie De Vault, Grand Pup Collette and his brother, Dwight's widow, Eleanor Pugh of Williamsburg, NM. He was born in Lansing, Michigan, to Barney and Lottie Pugh and was the last of nine siblings. Orville was elected Governor of Boy's State in 1950. As such he was honored to lay the wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, an honor usually reserved for the President of the United States. He also spent the day in the Oval Office with President Eisenhower. A graduate from Holt High School, Lansing Michigan, 1951, where he excelled in academics and sports. Retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant, Communications Specialist. Served in England, Turkey, Greenland, Korea and Germany. Following Military Service he was employed by Satellite Business Systems in Washington D.C. where he worked on the Comsat Telecommunications Satellite. Orville was in charge of communications for Field Command for KAFB and Johnston Atoll in the Pacific Islands. He was a recipient of numerous awards, most importantly: Defense Nuclear Agency Meritorious Civilian Service Medal awarded for successful communications during an exercise of a nuclear simulation attack NUWAX-83 in Nevada. He also received letters of Commendation from President Ford and President Bush, Sr. during his career in communications. Orville and Janet were partners in their antique and jewelry business, Prized Possessions, in Corrales. He will be cremated with a private memorial service. Orville will always be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, love of jalapenos and bolos, and most importantly his love of life, food and family.
