Obituary for WATKINS

CHARLES T. JR. (RET.) COL. A resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away September 2, 2011. He was born on February 10, 1925 in Union County NM near Clayton. His parents, Charlie and Mabel Watkins, were public school teachers in NM for nearly 50 years. Charles was a member of the United States Air Force for 30 years. He enlisted in March 1943, and entered the cadet-training program for pilots. He graduated in June of 1944 as a pilot and was a Second Lieutenant at age nineteen. He retired back in his home state of NM in March 1973 and is a veteran of three Wars: World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War. He was awarded many honors and medals for his dedication to our country and his skill as a fighter pilot including: The Distinguished Flying Cross, The Legion of Merit, The Air Medal and the Bronze Star. His wife Madonna survives Col. Watkins. They were married for 66 years. He is also survived by his children: Charles (Chuck) T. Watkins III, Lynn and Mike Felts, Bruce and Kelly Watkins and Susan Baca. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Phillip Watkins, Bryan and Thomas Felts, Chelsea and Allison Watkins and Lorenzo, Roni and Addison Baca. And by his two great-grandchildren: Carlos and Xander Watkins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 406 W. 34th St, Kansas City, MO 64111 or the American Heart Association, 2201 San Pedro NE, Building 2, Suite 102, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Friends may visit French ~ Wyoming Chapel on Thursday, September 8, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 pm.
