Obituary for TRUJILLO

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday August 30, 2011

MARY A. Surrounded by the love of her family, on August 28, 2011, Mary A. Trujillo, 80, gained her heavenly reward after a long and determined struggle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Mary was born at Acomita, NM to Lupe and Jose Aragon. She grew up living a farm life with her parents, grandparents and siblings. After she graduated from the Albuquerque Indian School in 1950, she worked at Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Nevada and Inter-Mountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah. When she moved to San Francisco, California, she attended Dental Assisting school. She married Jim Trujillo of Taos Pueblo, NM in 1956 and began a 24 year career as an Air Force military wife traveling with him and their two children, Marian and Michael, across the USA. After their retirement, they opened a gift shop in Old Town which they operated together until complications of her illness made it impossible for her to continue. Mary was the definition of motherhood and charity and was always willing to give and to pray for others. She will be dearly missed by her family and many relatives and friends who fondly recall her smile and laughter. She will also be remembered in the legacy of prayers she gave to the world in her donations of thousands of rosaries she handmade and donated to missions in the US and abroad. We would like thank the doctors and staff of the New Mexico Cancer Center, Presbyterian MSU, the Hospice IPU staff at Kaseman-Presbyterian, the home visits from the staff of Advantage Home Care and Presbyterian Home Hospice. Your care and compassion made it possible for Mary and her family to enjoy her final weeks at home. Thank you also to the many family, friends and coworkers who offered prayers and condolences which as time grew short brought her comfort and peace. Mary is survived by her family Jim, Marian and Michael; her sisters Cecilia Loretto and Rachel Aragon; her brother Leroy Aragon; many relatives from Acoma and Jemez Pueblo. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30 p.m to 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at Queen of Angels Indian Chapel at 12th street and I-40 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
