Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 07, 2011

BRYAN Bryan Baumeister, 61, died too young on August 2, 2011 from injuries and complications from a May 25, 2011 motorcycle accident. With his death, the University of Nebraska Corn Huskers lost their most ardent fan. Bryan was born on November 13, 1949 in Butte, Nebraska to Louis and Alma Baumeister who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death in 2009 by his beloved brother Dave and his dog Spike. Bryan is survived by his wife Katherine (Kay) Wade; his children Angela, Josh (Jessica), and Aaron; Yvonne Baumeister, the mother of his children; his brother Mike; and six grandchildren, Katie, EJ, Ryan, Brandon, Alyssa, and Jaden. Many cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews and friends also survive him. Bryan loved his pets and leaves behind dog Gracie and cats Ziggy and Mercedes. He received his Master's Degree from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, IL. Bryan was a talented and juried artist who specialized in rural scenes. He won second place in his category at the 2010 NM State Fair. He and Kay traveled extensively in the US, Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. Bryan's career spanned several interests over the years. During the past 10 years, he worked in nursing homes and was a passionate advocate for the elderly and their families. He loved life, was curious, loved the freedom of riding his motorcycle and never shied away from trying something new. Most recently he was in the process of renovating a 100 year old barn into a living space in his beloved Nebraska. Bryan was cremated and will be taken home to Nebraska at a later date. The family thanks the staff of the UNMH Trauma and Medical ICU's for taking such good care of Bryan and for their support to the family during this difficult journey. Thank you also to the many friends and co-workers who came forward and were steadfast in their love and support. A memorial and celebration of Bryan's life will be at Daniels Family Funeral Home, 3113 Carlisle NE on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 4:00 pm. A reception will follow at the family home.
