WAYNE B. 1919-2011 Age 93, a former resident of Belen, NM, for 40 years, passed away in Farmington, NM, on Saturday, July 16, after a short illness. Wayne retired from the Santa Fe Railway after 37 years of outstanding service. He was a 50 year member of the Belen Masonic Lodge and a long-time Ballut Abyad Shriner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and his brother, Jimmy Smith. Wayne is survived by his widow, Velma Smith; three daughters, Marilyn Chavez, Shirley Beasley and her husband, Robert and Linda Rippee; one son, Gary Smith; sister, Roberta Duff of Hobart, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 20, at 1:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to be held at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Boyd Morerod of the Los Chavez Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael Thomas, Stefan Mills, Derick Garcia, Chek Rippee and Tyrel Gast.
