Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday July 12, 2011

JOSE QUINONES Age 93, of Albuquerque, passed from this life on Friday, July 8, 2011. Jose was born in Anthony, New Mexico on October 15, 1917 to Manuel and Camila Quinones Martinez. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a friend to all. Jose is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ventura; his four sons, Robert (Rita), Daniel (Diana), Jerry (Cecilia), and Michael (Rossela); eleven grandchildren, Yvette Baggerly (Dave), Monique, Daniel, Tanya, Melissa, Jeremy, Alyssa, Nicole, Matthew, Michael and Monet; three great-grandchildren, Andres, Brandon and Tayla; brother, Ramon of Deming; sister, Jesusita of Deming, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carmen Avalos of Las Cruces. Jose proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII as an artillery man - serving in Europe against the Germans and after Pearl Harbor, in the Aleutian Islands against the Japanese. Jose married Ventura Torres on November 19, 1944 in Garfield, New Mexico. Jose and Ventura moved to Albuquerque in 1952. Jose worked for Jill's Bakery from 1952 to 1984. His hobbies were gardening, watch repair and tinkering with anything that was broken or not. Jose lovingly cared for Ventura at home as her Alzheimer's disease progressed, until his broken hip led both of them to live at Manzano Del Sol Village, where they shared a room. Jose was affectionately known as "Scooter" at Manzano Del Sol for his speedy travels around the facility to attend all the activities in which he participated - Bible study, church, bingo, movies - and to spend time in the courtyard. He was an honest, faithful, hard-working man and will be fondly remembered by the numerous lives he touched. His parting remark to everyone was always, "God bless you". Visitation will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011, 6:00-7:00 p.m. with Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 15, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque.
