ELIZABETH NEPRUD LOVE Judge Love, as many knew her, passed away peacefully in Orem, Utah, on June 22. She was 82. Elizabeth was born in Shanghai, China, to Carl and Josephine Neprud. She moved to the US in 1941 and lived in several states growing up. She began college at the Pasadena Playhouse before transferring to UNM. There, she met a law student, Jack Love, whom she married in 1950. They moved to Lovington and raised four children. Later, Elizabeth graduated from ENMU and became a social worker in Albuquerque. She received a law degree from UNM in 1973, and worked as a city prosecutor before serving as a metropolitan court judge until retirement in 1992. On the bench, she earned a reputation for being ethical, strict, and possessed of a wry sense of humor. In 1980, she and Jack divorced; she never remarried. Elizabeth enjoyed raising dogs, repairing houses, road trips in her beat-up van, thrift shopping, and talking with friends over knitting or coffee. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Margaret Wenzel and Anya (Anne) Neprud; and her son, Eric Love. She is survived by her children, Jacqueline Steffes and Carl Love, both of Utah, and Katherine Love of Seattle; and also by dozens of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She had numerous close and caring friends and neighbors. Services will be held Saturday, July 9, at 10:00 a.m., at the Alumni Memorial Chapel on the UNM campus (Northeast of the intersection of University Blvd and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd). Interment will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Park followed by a reception at the Artichoke Cafe. Carl Love: 801-717-8150
