IRENE MARTINEZ YATES Age 70 of Grants, NM, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Gallup, NM on December 6, 1940. She is preceded in death by her parents, Viola Vickrey and James Sumett Sr.; and daughter Kimberly Scott. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Crosson of Garland, TX and Jerene Speakman, husband Robin, of Carroll, OH,; her son Roy Yates Jr. and wife Shawnee, of Milan, NM; grandchildren, Carrie and Cassie Crosson of Garland, TX, Taylor and Maya Yates of Milan, NM, Kaitlyn, Makenzie and Aubrey Speakman of Carroll, OH; brothers, George Sumett, wife Nancy, and James Sumett Jr., wife Nancy, both of Yakima, WA; and sister, Margo Campbell of Albuquerque, NM, along with numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends who she loved very much. Irene was an accomplished New Mexican artist and well known in the art community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
