LENA Loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on May 28, 2011. Born on March 12, 1916 in Cimarron, New Mexico, Lena was a long-time resident of Martineztown, New Mexico. She enjoyed 52 years of marriage with her husband, Ted, and lived her life surrounded by her family and friends. Lena dedicated many of her efforts to service at San Ignacio Catholic Church where she was a lector, a member of the altar society and leader of the rosary group. She was the recipient of the prestigious St. Francis of Assisi Award granted by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe for service to the church and community. She was also a member of La Amistad Senior Center and enjoyed quilting and sewing. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Casias; her daughter, Virginia Velasquez; her son, Rudy Casias; her mother, Tillie "Little Grandma" Casias; her father, Fred Casias; her brothers, Manuel Casias and Fred Casias; and her granddaughter, Rosann Hunick and husband, Henry Justo Hunick. She is survived by her sons, Edward Casias, Albert Casias, John Casias and wife, Terri; her daughter, Dolores "Dolly" Casias; her sisters, Geri Gurule and Laura Pacheco; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family members who she loved very much. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at San Ignacio Catholic Church, 1300 Walter N.E., beginning with a rosary at 9:30 a.m. and followed by a 10 a.m. mass, celebrated by Monsignor Leo Lucero. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael M. Montoya, David Velasquez, Steve Casias, Darren Casias, Robert Thompson and Eric Hunick. Special thanks to Sandia Hospice and, especially, Anna and Melissa. With tearful eyes we watched you fade away, Although we loved you dearly We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hardworking hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove, He only takes the best. It's lonesome here without you, We miss you more and more each day, Life doesn't seem the same since you went away. Each time we see your picture, You seem to smile and say, "I'm in God's hands, We'll meet again some day." I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun Of happy memories that I leave when life is done. Please visit our online guestbook for Lena at www.RememberTheirStory.com.
