Obituary for CUYLER

Lee ("Cookie") Cook Cuyler, 86, resident of Albuquerque, NM since August 2001, died May 14, 2011. Lee is survived by her sister, Smiley (Ken) Karst of Santa Monica, CA, and her five children, Robert (Millie) Cuyler of Corona del Mar, CA, David (Beverly) Cuyler of Albuquerque, NM, Patty Cuyler of Chicago, IL, Sue (John) Janosko of Frisco, TX, and Tom (Roxanne) Cuyler, also of Albuquerque, NM. Lee was also blessed to leave behind 15 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Cuyler. Born Carolyn Lee Cook in Altadena, California in 1924, she attended Western College in Miami, OH for two years during the war, where she passionately enjoyed writing and directing radio dramas. She finished her bachelor's degree at University of California at Los Angeles, where she studied history and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She met Bob Cuyler, her husband to be, at UCLA; they married after graduation in 1949 and Bob was hired by IBM. During their 50 years of marriage, Lee and Bob lived in San Diego, CA; Binghamton, NY; Menlo Park, CA; Palos Verdes, CA; Balboa Island, CA; and Bend, OR. In 2001, Lee moved to Albuquerque, where her sons, Dave and Tom were living and working, following the death of her husband. A life-long volunteer, Lee dedicated countless hours at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA; at Saint Charles Hospital of Bend, OR; and most recently with the Assistance League of Albuquerque. A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at New Life City at 4830 Pan American Freeway NE, Albuquerque NM 87109. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Assistance League of Albuquerque, NM 529 Chama Street NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
