Obituary for CLARKE

Reed Scott Clarke, 95, left us on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 to be with his soulmate of 61 beautiful years, Dora. He is survived by his son, Blaine; daughter, Idelle; four grandchildren, Cameron and his wife, Jodie, Michael, Lynde and Heather; one great-grandson, Chase; and his ex-daughter-in-law, Tammy. Reed was born in 1916 on his grandfather's farm in Clay County, KS to Blaine and Leo Clarke. After attending rural school for the first three years, he moved to the Clay Center, KS schools for fourth through seventh grades. Reed moved to Pampa, TX in 1928, where he lived on the farm with his parents until he entered the service in 1941. After graduating from high school in 1933, he attended West Texas State College from 1934 to 1939, graduating with a B.S. degree in math. Reed worked during the school year of 1937-1938 for Bonded Abstract & Title Company in Pampa, where he helped conduct a financial audit of Gray County Creamery. After graduation, he worked for Acme Lumber Company, becoming assistant district manager, before being drafted into the armed services in October of 1941. Reed was transferred to Alaska at the start of WWII, becoming a clerk typist in The Alaska Defense Command office and soon transferred to the Weather Squadron to await entrance to Meteorology school at UCLA. After he graduated in 1943, he was commissioned 2nd Lt. and was transferred to Kirtland Field, where his service was completed as a weather instructor and forecaster. In 1944, Reed married Dora Lucero and has resided in Albuquerque ever since. During this time, he worked for Continental Oil Co., Eveready Oil Co., Gates Tire Co. and later became a math teacher at APS and a data processing teacher at TVI. In 1970, he earned a M.S. degree in Computer Science from UNM. Reed retired in 1983 and enjoyed traveling and caring for his grandchildren since. Reed was a loving and adoring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the solid rock to anchor his family. He will be missed and cherished by all the people who he has touched in his life. We love you! Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, 6:00 p.m., at French-University Chapel, with visitation one hour prior, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE.
