SMSGT. J.T. Duty USAF (Ret), 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1986, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011 to be with the love of his life Sheila Duty who preceded him in death October 12, 1992. J.T. is survived by his daughters, Kelley Lee and husband, Melvin Lee, Debbie Huffman; son, David Jaeger and wife, Sylvia Jaeger; grandchildren, Wesley Lee, Zachary Lee, Michelle Polley, Amanda Jaeger, David Jaeger, Hunter Jaeger; great-granddaughter, Symone Polley; sisters, Olena Dobbins (Carey) and Thelma Vikstrom; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Ben, Hancel, Malcolm and Dale. J.T. was born June 10, 1935 in Clifton, Texas, he was the seventh of eight children born to George Brown and Mary Duty. At the time of his birth his parents were not able to decide on a name. They had the name John Thurman in mind so the hospital told them they had three days to decide and in the mean time to just put the initials J.T. and come back once they made a final decision. On the third day when they both finally agreed on John Thurman they loaded up the Model A Ford to head to the hospital and enter the official name. The model A would not start; being the hospital had not heard back from George and Mary they registered the official name as J.T. Duty. He graduated from Clifton High in 1953. J.T. Enlisted in the USAF in 1959. Shortly after joining the USAF he met his soul mate Sheila. They were married on May 17, 1963. J.T. served with distinction in the Vietnam War with multiple tours to Vietnam. In 1986 after an illustrious 27 year career, J.T. retired from the military. After his Military service J.T. went to work for the United Stated Postal Service until 1997. He was an active member in the American Legion post 49 where he commemorated the "good old days" with his fellow veterans.
