Obituary for DRIVER

Larry Driver, (Lt. Col. USAF Ret.), age 89, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby; two sons, Larry (Sue) Driver of Tuttle, Oklahoma and David (Shirley) Driver of Great Falls, Montana; three daughters, Susan (Paul) Bowdoin, Ruby (Bob) Wasierski and Ellen (Skip) Dobson all of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Doris of Las Vegas, Nevada, Darlene of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Phyllis of Omaha, Nebraska and Lois (Roger) of Beaver Lake, Nebraska; one brother, Donald of Pensacola, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella and Joanne; and one granddaughter, Susan. Larry was born on February 11, 1922 in Logan, Iowa, the son of David F. and Marie Driver. He grew up in western Iowa and eastern Nebraska. After graduating from Benson High School, he worked for the Dodge Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan. He then joined the Army Air Force in 1943. He served in the United States Air Force for thirty years and was a veteran of WWII, The Korean War, and The Vietnam War. He was a pilot during WWII and in Korea. In 1952, he was married to Ruby Gendron of Republic, Washington, at Yakota Air Force Base in Japan. In 1953, he was stationed at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He and his family were stationed at many other Air Force bases throughout his career enjoying their ever growing family together until 1973, when they retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Larry enjoyed hunting, golfing, trap shooting, traveling with Ruby in their motor home, and continuing his education at UNM. Larry loved being a Grandpa and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011, 10:00 a.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church, 11515 Lomas Blvd NE in Albuquerque. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
