Delia V. Garcia passed away with her family and friends around her on May 11, 2011. She is survived by her partner of 42 years, John Armijo; her sons Elmer N. Garcia and Samuel J. Garcia (wife Cathy); daughters, Rosie Lopez, Rosaura Arnell (husband Delbert), Susan Ortega (husband Max). She was preceded in death by daughter, Dolores Maes Aragon; grandsons Dale Garcia and Gabe Garcia; granddaughter, Monica Ortega; sisters, Ida Ventura, Flora Baca and Josie Gonzales. Grandchildren surviving her include David Garcia, Diane Gonzales and Eddie, Darlene Montoya and Bennie, Pamela Gonzales and Ted, Jay Angelo Garcia, Jason A. Garcia and Brooke, Max Ortega, Jr., Melissa Minton, Gary Garcia, Donna Lesher and Mark, Carl Arnell, Ray Lopez, Marcos Lopez, Nathaniel Lopez, Jerry Garcia, John Pat Garcia, Vonnie Sena and Louie, Patty Garcia and Phil, Laura Chavez and Mike, Danny Maes, Louie Maes. Delia V. Garcia is survived by numerous great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. Pallbearers include Luciano Lopez, Max Ortega, Jr., David Garcia, Carl Arnell, Gary Garcia, Jason Garcia and Louie Maes. Honorary pallbearers , Jay Angelo Garcia, Ray Lopez, Nathaniel Lopez and Marcos Lopez. Delia V. Garcia will always be remembered for her love of New Mexico native cuisine. She loved preparing family feasts of red and green chiles, beans and posole. For many years she owned and managed restaurants here in Santa Fe (El Sarape at the Desert Inn, Garcia Restaurant and the Mission Garcia restaurant at the Oldest House complex). She also loved the political arena, helping her many friends run their campaigns. The Garcia family wants to express their heartfelt thanks to the many people who helped over the last few years during her illness. Among these were caregivers from several organizations in Santa Fe. Special thanks go to her neighbor and former daughter-in-law, Corrine Garcia, her final caregiver, Debbie Miera, and many other family members. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at St. Anne's Church in Santa Fe. A Rosary will begin at 9:30 am with Deacon Andy Dimas, followed by a Mass at 10:30 am with Father Leo Ortiz, a Rosario Cemetery service at 11:30 and a reception back at St. Ann's Church immediately after the Rosario Cemetery service.
