Obituary for CHAPEL

Curtis Chapel, age 99, of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. He is survived by his son, Robert (Cheryl) of Lemitar, NM; his daughter, Cheryl Dingman (David) of Bedford, TX; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Curtis was born in Olatha, Colorado and grew up in Nebraska and Wyoming. He married Mary Wright, his wife of 56 years, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. They then moved to New Mexico in 1938. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and then returned to New Mexico where he continued to work in the construction industry for the rest of his working career. Curtis was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his granddaughter, Kim Chapel; a brother; and two sisters. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at French - University Chapel, 1111 University Blvd NE, 87102.
