Obituary for CASTRO

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday May 13, 2011

Rose Lucy Castro, 75, lost her battle with cancer and took her final leave to be with the Lord on May 10, 2011. "Rosie," as she was called by all who came in contact with her warmth and friendliness, was born October 3, 1935 in New York City. There she met the love of her life, Peter Frank Castro, and they wed on December 4, 1955. Rosie could light up a room and was always surrounded by a captivated audience. Everyone loved her Italian cooking and the encouraging way of making you eat past your fill. Seeking a better life for her children, she and her family relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1973, leaving behind lifelong friends and family. Rosie always placed family first, a lesson she continually preached to her three boys. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could always bring a smile to the faces of anyone she embraced. Rosie was a devout member of Saint Bernadette's Catholic Parish where for the past 38 years she developed her relationship with Jesus Christ. Rose is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Peter; her son Peter John and son Michael Mario and wife Catherine; her son Christopher and wife Lynette; her grandchildren, Brian, Amber, Charlie and wife Lissie, Amanda, Nicholas, Christopher and Mark; and finally her great-grandson, Roman. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernadette's Church, 11401 Indian School Road NE, on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. with internment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE, immediately following. In lieu of flowers, Rosie's wish was that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org a charity she supported throughout her adult life.
