Obituary for PURCELL

Ruth Jean Smith (Schram), 93, entered into eternal rest peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday April 30, 2011 at the home of her loving daughter Debby and son-in-law Charles Joerg. Per her wishes there will be no funeral. There will be a Celebration of Life at the funeral home on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Ruthie, as she was called by her family, was born on November 13, 1917 in Roswell New Mexico. She attended the University of New Mexico majoring in psychology. She belonged to the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority while attending the University. She was a former member of Military Widows of Kirtland Air Force Base. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bowman Purcell on May 13, 1981 after 36 years of marriage; two brothers, Ben and Frank "Bud" Smith; one sister, Bette Nelson. Survivors include: her two children Lt. Col. Roger James Purcell and wife, Colleen (Timberlake) of Florence, Montana and Debra Ann Purcell Joerg and husband, Charles of Albuquerque, New Mexico; five grandchildren Jeffrey Joerg and wife, Gianna (Guerra) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Erin Rodriquez and husband, Eric of Houston, Texas, Anthony Joerg of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Capt. Clark Purcell, USMC and wife, Breeanna (Fischer)of Ramona, California; two great-grandchildren Colter James Purcell and Andrew Casey Purcell both of Ramona, California; her sister Mrs. Jayne Spencer, Sr. of Roswell, New Mexico; her brother Mr. Charles Smith of Roswell, New Mexico and many nieces and nephews. Grandma/Grambie Purcell was a lover of all children especially her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a great passion for chocolate and chocolate ice cream. She was an avid pecan shucker and kept us all in fresh pecans. She out played us all in Scrabble up until her last months. She was an amazing role model for all of us. The family wishes to express their love and respect for the care that Debby and Charlie Joerg gave Grandma Purcell over the years of her life and especially during these last days. She was well loved. In her last days of life she was gently cared for with loving hands and caring hugs. We are sure there is a special place in Heaven for you. God bless you both for the loving care and for being there when we could not be. God brought her home. There is another special Angel in heaven. Grambie you will be missed.
