Obituary for TENGDIN

Daniel J. "D.J.", age 46, was born August 27, 1964 in Minneapolis. His life ended tragically in a glider crash near Boulder, Colorado on April 1, 2011. Preceded in death by his mother, Fern Tengdin. Survived by his father, Bob and Bob's wife, Dorothy; brothers, David and his wife, Sonja and their children, Rolf and Peter; his brother, Doug and his wife, Pam and their children, David, Phoebe, Priscilla, Andrew, Daniel and Dean; uncle, John and aunt ,Carol Tengdin; and his uncle, Dean Werner; as well as numerous cousins. His passing is deeply mourned by Dorothys family of two sons, two daughters and eight grandchildren. He was confirmed in his faith at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina. As a member of Boy Scout Troop #123 he earned the Eagle Scout award. In 1983, he graduated from Edina High School where he captained the state championship ski team. Buck Hill and its race team was a second home for him since the age of seven! In 1988, he graduated from St. Olaf College, where he was a two time All-American ski racer and helped lead the team to its first ever Collegiate National Championship. He was an academic All-American as well. An MBA degree was earned at Columbia University in 1991, after which he had a career in the financial services industry. For the last 15 years he was at home in the Denver, Colorado area where he was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. As an active member of the Rocky Mountain Masters Ski program, he won numerous national titles in his age group. Other interests included water skiing, golf, fishing, hunting and the great outdoors. His recent passion for soaring led him to achieve his private pilot glider license. At the time of the accident, D.J. was just short of earning his commercial license. He was a proud member of the American Swedish Institute and celebrated his Scandinavian heritage. He will be missed by his loving family and many friends from coast to coast as well as in Norway and Sweden. He lived his life to the fullest and is now soaring with our Lords other angels. All of us are connected in the universe, D.J. made that connection a joy! His family and friends describe him as having an extraordinary loving kindness that touched us all. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 East Hampden Ave., Cherry Hills Village, Colorado 80113. .
