Obituary for BRUNGARD

Bernice Irene Gayman Brungard, 91, passed from this life March 31, 2011. Bernice was born August 28, 1919 to Benjamin E. Gayman and Loma Florence Myers of Bloserville, Pa. Bernice graduated from Mansfield State Teachers College with a degree in home economics. She married John W. Brungard, Sr. in El Paso, Texas on August 10, 1943 and taught home economics and mathematics. She then began her career in banking while living in El Paso. Bernice moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1951, where she worked at First National Bank for 28 years, retiring in 1979. Bernice was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 401 in Albuquerque, NM, where she became president of both the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the M.O.C.A. auxiliary. She also served as the District president. Bernice spent many hours of volunteer work at the Post and the Veterans Administration Hospital. She is survived by two daughters: Mary Lou Hutto of Wilson, Ok and Linda Kay Klauschie and husband Bill of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: John W. (Bill) Brungard III and wife Sue, Doris L. (Dauci) Priest and husband Frank; Tammy L. Joseph, Brenda G. Berryman and husband James; Dr Jennifer Klauschie and life partner Christine Johnston, Nathan W., Katie A., Christina M, Samuel J., and James A. Klauschie, and Ronnie and Rick Cole. Bernice also had ten great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, and one nephew. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, sister Verna Baldwin, husband John W. Brungard, Sr., son John W. Brungard, Jr., step-brother Jimmy Diven, Sr. and son Jimmy Diven, Jr. A memorial service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetary on May 2, 2011. Mary Lou Hutto will perform the service, with Bernice's nephew Larry Baldwin singing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on May 2, 2011 at 9:45 a.m.
