Alexander "Alex" P. Matteucci, 72, a long time resident of Las Cruces, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, April 15th, 2011. Alex was born September 29, 1938 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, son of Pete Matteucci and Margaret Balduini Matteucci. He graduated from Albuquerque High School, received a BA from the University of New Mexico 1962, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Wyoming in 1965. Alex was united in marriage to Nancy Paula Bertagnolli on August 8, 1964 in Albuquerque, NM. He was the former business owner of Southwestern Abstract Title Co., K-Bobs Restaurant and a family owned business Richards's Distributing Company. Alex actively participated in many philanthropic activities in the Las Cruces and Mesilla communities and at New Mexico State University. He was a lifetime member of Sunrise Lions Club, Sales & Leads Club, a former board member of the Las Cruces Boys and Girls Club, a former Board of Trustees Representative of Mesilla and a recipient of the Las Cruces Board of Realtors citizen of the year and National Kidney Foundation Outstanding Achievement Award. He is survived by his wife Nancy of 46 years, his four loving children; Chistine Matteucci Simon (husband Scott Simon), Cheryl Matteucci Nikirk (husband David Nikirk), Caren Matteucci Lewis (husband Kevin Lewis), and John Matteucci (wife Michelle). He is also survived by his Sister Margaret Mary Matteucci, Brother Richard Matteucci ( wife Nedra), and a Sister-in-law Sandra Matteucci. Also surviving Alex are his eleven grandchildren: Chelsea Matteucci, Giulia Lewis, Lucia Lewis, Juliana Matteucci, Alex Simon, Milena Lewis, Andrew Simon, Zoe Matteucci, Neva Nikirk, Rachael Nikirk, Lyndsey Nikirk. Alex was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ralph Matteucci. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 from 5 to 7pm at Getz Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Albert the Great Newman Center on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 10:00 am with Rev. Mitch Dowalgo officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the Las Cruces Boys and Girls Club 330 W.
