Obituary for CORDOVA

Pedro A. Cordova, 85, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2011. His loving wife, Mary A. Cordova, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Pete R. Cordova, daughter Rosalie Savedra and husband, Joe, daughter Beverly Baca, son Mike Cordova, and daughter Rita Chavez and fianc, Steve Mendoza; grandchildren Lisa, Michael, Toby, Alicia, Carlos, Vinnie, Raymond, and Clovis; and great-grandchildren Xavier, Kyle, and Breanna. Pedro worked for many years in civil service as an Aircraft Fueler at Kirtland Air Force Base, but he is most known for his years of dedicated service to the U.S. Army and later the Military Order of the Purple Heart. While serving in World War II, Pedro was decorated for his service with the 45th Infantry Division at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His post-war service includes membership with the D.A.V., Post 100 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart - Chapter 1966. During his tenure with the MOPH, he held nearly every office available including: Chapter Commander, Senior Vice Commander, and Department Junior Vice Commander. Pedro was a loving husband and faithful civil servant. He is beloved by his family and known to almost everyone as "Grandpa". He will be missed dearly. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1860 Griegos Road NW. Mass will be held Wednesday, April 20 at 10:00 also at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Burial will occur on Thursday at 1:30 at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Joe, Michael and Toby Savedra; Carlos Chavez, Steve and Vinnie Mendoza.
